Collegiate Ave./Green Acres/R.L. Hyslop Transition Committee

Purpose

As part of the Lower Stoney Creek School Consolidation Plan, HWDSB and the Ministry of Education will be investing over $10 million to build an addition and update Collegiate Ave. School. This addition and renewal work will increase the capacity at Collegiate Ave. to accommodate students following the closure of Green Acres and R.L. Hyslop.

RL Hyslop Elementary School


East Hamilton (Glen campus and Sir Wilfrid Laurier community)

Purpose

This school is the consolidation of Glen Brae and Glen Echo (Zone 1), Sir Isaac Brock (Zone 2), some students from Sir Wilfrid Laurier (Zone 3) and some students from Elizabeth Bagshaw (Zone 4). Once the new school is constructed, Glen Brae, Glen Echo, Sir Isaac Brock and Elizabeth Bagshaw will close and the students in Zones 1-4 will move to the new school.

As part of the East Hamilton School Consolidation Plan, a JK-8 school community of approximately 700 pupils will be created including students from Elizabeth Bagshaw and Sir Wilfrid Laurier. The anticipated date for students and staff attending Sir Wilfrid Laurier according to the new boundaries is September 2021.  Following this transition, Elizabeth Bagshaw will be closed.

Ancaster Senior / Fessenden Elementary School Campus

Purpose

As part of the Ancaster Accommodation Review, the Board of Trustees approved the closure of Fessenden and Queen’s Rangers, pending Ministry of Education funding for two new JK-8 elementary schools on the CH Bray and Rousseau sites, as well as an addition at Ancaster Senior.

In March of this year, HWDSB received Ministry of Education funding for a $3,702,489 addition to Ancaster Senior. The addition is currently in for Site Plan Approval and the intention is to have the addition complete for September 2019.

Bernie Custis Secondary School Transition Committee

Purpose

HWDSB’s new Bernie Custis Secondary School will be located at 1055 King Street East (former Scott Park Secondary School site). This beautifully designed secondary school will be constructed to meet the needs of students while complementing in the adjacent Tim Hortons Field, Jimmy Thompson pool and the new City of Hamilton Bernie Morelli Recreation Centre. The downtown location allows for a flexible design. It will accommodate 1,250 pupils in approximately 160,000 square foot secondary school with surrounding amenities. The preliminary site design includes a three-storey secondary school, green space and a unique partnership with the City of Hamilton that provides state-of-the-art physical education opportunities for our students.

Purpose

As part of the Lower Stoney Creek School Consolidation Plan, the Ministry of Education will be investing $11.5 million to build a new JK-8 elementary school on the Eastdale Elementary School site. This new school will accommodate students currently at Mountain View School and some students at Collegiate Ave. School.

Purpose

To help relieve accommodation pressure in upper Stoney Creek, HWDSB will be opening the new school on the Summit Park site in September 2019.

East Hamilton/Lower Stoney Creek French Immersion Transition Committee

Purpose

On Monday, February 26, 2018, the Board of Trustees reviewed plans for the relocation of French Immersion from Glen Echo and Glen Brae to the schools named in the East Hamilton – Lower Stoney Creek French Immersion Boundary Review. After careful consideration of feedback provided through the public consultation process, Trustees have approved the following:

  • French Immersion students currently attending Glen Echo and Glen Brae will remain at Glen Echo and Glen Brae until June 2020
  • French Immersion students attending AM Cunningham (Gr. 1-5) will continue at AM Cunningham and attend Glen Brae (Gr. 6-8) until June 2020
  • After June 2020, all French Immersion students attending Glen Echo and Glen Brae will relocate to the new sites identified through the East Hamilton – Lower Stoney Creek French Immersion Boundary Review for September 2020
    • New East Hamilton FI Schools – Parkdale (Gr. 1-5), WH Ballard (Gr. 6-8)
    • New Lower Stoney Creek FI School – New School at Eastdale Site (Gr. 1-8)
  • Newly accepted Gr. 1 French Immersion students living within the new East Hamilton (Parkdale) and Lower Stoney Creek (Green Acres/Eastdale) French Immersion catchments will attend Glen Echo for the 2018-19 school year
  • Gr. 1 French Immersion will continue at Glen Echo until June 2020 and be relocated to Parkdale and the new school at the Eastdale site by September 2020.

Eastdale / Mountain View Transition Committee

Purpose

The Board of Trustees approved the closure of Collegiate Avenue, Eastdale, Green Acres, Memorial (SC), Mountain View and R.L. Hyslop Schools and the opening of three new JK-8 elementary schools on the Collegiate, Eastdale and Memorial (SC) sites with modified boundaries between these three schools.

On October 28, 2016, the Ministry of Education announced funding to build a new JK-8 elementary school for 564 students to be built on the existing Eastdale site.

On June 19, 2017, the Ministry announced funding for a new JK-8 elementary school for 495 students to be built on the existing Memorial SC site. They also announced funding for an addition to Collegiate Elementary School to accommodate 213 students.

Queen’s Rangers / Beverly / Dr. Seaton Transition Committee

Purpose

As part of the Ancaster Accommodation Review, the Board of Trustees approved the closure of Queen’s Rangers, pending Ministry of Education funding for two new JK-8 elementary schools on the CH Bray and Rousseau sites, as well as an addition at Ancaster Senior.

In March 2015 and March 2018, HWDSB received total Ministry of Education funding of $14.4 million for a 511-pupil place, K-8 elementary school on the Beverly Community Centre site. Construction has started on this school and completion is expected in the 2019-20 school year.

Purpose

New School on Memorial (Stoney Creek) Site

Purpose

This school is the consolidation of Memorial (Stoney Creek) and some students from Mountain View. The new school will be constructed on a different part of the Memorial (Stoney Creek) site so it can stay open during the construction phase. Once the new school is constructed, the students from Mountain View will move to this school and Mountain View will close.

New School on Greensville Site

Purpose

As part of the West Flamborough School Consolidation Plan, a new 381 pupil place Jk-8 elementary school is being built on the former Greensville site to accommodate students from Spencer Valley and Grade 6-8 students at Millgrove. The new school also includes two child care rooms. The City of Hamilton Community Centre and Hamilton Public Library branch will follow the construction of the school, creating the Greensville Community Hub project.
