This is a fantastic opportunity to dive deeper into your role, learn the ins and outs of your position, and gain a firsthand understanding of the diverse student population we proudly serve. - Participate in three paid days of job shadowing experienced EAs in various school settings, including elementary, secondary, and special education classrooms.
- The list of experiences for job shadowing includes:
- Experience in regular class.
- Experience in elementary school and secondary school.
- Experience in self-contained class.
- Experience with toileting, personal care routines.
- Experience in sensory or calming space in the school.
- Experience with a student using augmentative communication tools.
- Experience in Kindergarten.
- Experience with visual supports.
- Experience with a structured teaching system.
- Three days of job shadowing are paid.
Your diploma as an Educational Assistant, Child and Youth Worker, Developmental Services Worker, or Social Service Worker is supported by cultural and ability sensitivity, as well as related experience supporting individuals with special needs.
As an Educational Assistant, you will work on call in short-term and long-term assignments at multiple schools throughout the diverse communities of HWDSB, including Hamilton Mountain, Hamilton Downtown, Waterdown, Flamborough, Dundas, Ancaster, Mount Hope, Binbrook, Stoney Creek and Winona.

Qualifications
- Diploma as an Educational Assistant, Child and Youth Worker, Developmental Services Worker, or Social Service Worker
- Cultural and ability sensitivity
- Related experience supporting individuals with special needs
- The ability to perform physical tasks including dressing, feeding, lifting/re-positioning, transfers, toileting, and diapering
- Training in one or more of the following areas: Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Autism Spectrum Disorder, assistive technology, sign language, First Aid and CPR.
