Details: At HWDSB we strive to create, uphold, and improve our working and learning spaces so that every student, staff, and family feels a deep sense of belonging. In response to a Board motion, (December 4 Board motion), staff will engage in a half day of learning to challenge islamophobia, and anti-Palestinian racism. The content is developed by KR Consulting and will be facilitated by principals and vice-principals at the school site. The learning will specifically include:
- Understanding, recognizing and challenging Islamophobia and anti-Muslim racism and anti-Palestinian racism
- What is Islamophobia and anti-Muslim racism and how does it manifest (including in today’s context).
- What is anti-Palestinian racism and how does it manifest (including in today’s context).
- Understanding the impact on students, staff and the community.
- Strategies on how to challenge and respond to Islamophobia, anti-Muslim racism and anti-Palestinian racism and support students and staff impacted.
