Exchange Students

Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board supports Student Exchange Program initiatives. All parents, students or organizations who are interested in a student exchange, must contact the school Principal in advance of finalizing any arrangements. The school Principal will consult with the Admissions Office prior to any expectations being established with students, parents or exchange organizations.

Participation in an Exchange Student Program is voluntary and requires the written informed consent of the parent/guardian or, where a student is eighteen (18) years of age or older, the student’s written informed consent.

Are Exchange Students required to report to the Admissions Office within the Welcome Centre?

Exchange Students must report to the Admissions Office within the Welcome Centre to check documentation.

Medical Insurance:

All incoming Exchange Students must have active and valid Medical Insurance. Written proof of coverage is to be provided to the school Principal prior to the student being registered. Without validation of medical insurance, the student will not be registered.

Exchange Student Organizations:

In accordance with the Provincial Ministry of Education Memorandum 2004:SB7 the following criteria must be met:

There must be a written agreement between the school board and/or schools of the outgoing Ontario pupils and the incoming foreign pupils, or between the school board and an organization sponsoring educational exchange programs. Where the agreement is with an organization sponsoring educational exchange programs, the board will be required to have on file a report from the organization sponsoring the agreement that lists the participating foreign pupils and Ontario pupils by school and exchange dates.
