Trustee Expenses

Textsize
A+ A-

Trustees are officials, elected to serve parents, students, taxpayers and the school system. They are the link between communities and the school board, ensuring Hamilton public schools meet the diverse needs of students in their communities.

In March 2010, Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board approved a revised Trustee Expense Policy designed to maintain a high standard of financial integrity, accountability and transparency. Over their term in office, trustees are entitled to reimbursement for any out-of-pocket expenses reasonably incurred while carrying out their responsibilities as a board member. The Trustee Expense Policy reflects the standards articulated in the Ministry of Education’s Trustee Expenditure Guidelines. These expenses are reported according to the following categories:

  • Office, Equipment and Supplies
  • Telephone, Internet and Wireless Communication Services
  • Postage and Printing
  • Professional Development
  • Travel for Board Business
  • Hospitality
  • Other

This policy goes beyond the requirements set out by the Ministry of Education by publishing expenses quarterly to the Board’s website.
