In an effort to recognize the distinct and diverse nations of Canada's original peoples, Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) utilizes First Nations, Métis, and Inuit terminology to represent the demographic of learners we serve.

HWDSB respects the right to self-determination and encourages the participation of Aboriginal Peoples to voluntarily self-identify. The data collected is confidential and will be used to inform relevant programs, policies, and practices for all learners in the Board.

As stated in the Constitution Act, 1982, Section 35(2): "Aboriginal peoples include Indian (First Nations), Métis, and Inuit peoples of Canada."
