Wentworth Strategy Group Requesting Community Guidance on HWDSB Trustee Policies

The following message is being shared with our HWDSB community on behalf of Wentworth Strategy Group. Find more information on our Governance Action Plan webpage.

PDF Version: Invitation for Perspectives – HWDSB Board of Trustees Governance

Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) Trustees appointed Wentworth Strategy Group and a project team to lead a governance review. This follows a motion to conduct a review of governance practices by an independent third-party from an Anti-Oppression and Anti-Racism framework. The Independent Code of Conduct Review, released in February 2021, also recommended a Governance Review and with a focus on on equity, diversity, and inclusion.

The project team will update policy framework, revise the HWDSB Board of Trustees Handbook, and engage in training and professional development opportunities for Trustees.

The phases of this project include:

  • Initiation of governance review
  • Initiation of updating of policy framework
  • Trustee training and development program
  • Project completion and submission of final report

Wentworth Strategy Group and the project team are undertaking a review and providing recommendations to the HWDSB Board of Trustees. Wentworth Strategy Group and the project team are not operating in a governance, oversight, legislative, or judicial capacity. Wentworth Strategy Group and the project team are specifically reviewing the policies of the Board of Trustees, not the general HWDSB policies.

Individuals or groups who wish to share perspectives, advice, and suggestions to the project team are welcome to email submissions to [email protected]. Submissions will be welcomed until October 31, 2021.

Note: Sending a submission to the project team does not prevent individuals or groups from seeking to independently delegate to or engage with the HWDSB Board of Trustees, who are the governance body that will ultimately decide on the adoption of new policies.
