Greetings, Ward 6 and Ward 9 Community,

I hope your family had a restful Winter Break, and the return to classrooms and learning spaces has been successful for your child(ren).

I am pleased to share that at the Monday, November 18 Board Meeting Trustees re-elected Maria-Felix Miller as Chair of the Board and Paul Tut as Vice Chair. Also, alongside my fellow Trustees we selected our colleagues for the following positions:

  • Chair of Policy Committee – Sabreina Dahab, Ward 2
  • Chair of Program Committee – Amanda Fehrman, Wards 11 & 12
  • Chair of Finance and Facilities Committee – Paul Tut, Ward 13
  • Chair of the Human Resources Committee – Dawn Danko, Ward 7

Additionally, at the December 2 Governance meeting Becky Buck, HWDSB Trustee for Wards 8 & 14, was elected as Chair of Governance Committee.

I look forward to continuing to serve the Ward 6 & 9 communities alongside my colleagues. You can read more about the election, click here.  For those who may be interested, you can find the dates of all Board meetings, as well as a link to our livestream, here.

Also, I am thrilled to share the results of HWDSB’s By-Election and welcome Abby Zaitley as HWDSB’s Ward 4 Trustee. I look forward to the work we will do together alongside all our fellow Trustees.

In support of our Multi-Year Strategic Plan, teams have been working at schools across HWDSB to provide important facilities updates. These updates include washroom renovations at Highview, window and door replacements at Lincoln Alexander, as well as door replacements and music room renovation at Lisgar. Richard Beasley will have washroom, and window and door renovations, with  a transformer replacement happening at Sherwood. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about these or other renovation projects in Wards 6 & 9.

As we are in the middle of winter, I wanted to make sure you know where to find important information about Severe Weather. You can learn all about how HWDSB manages snowy and icy conditions here

I encourage you to subscribe to your child’s school website, follow the Board on Instagram @hwdsb, and look for HWDSB’s monthly NOW@HWDSB newsletter in your email inbox. Please expect the next edition early February.

As the 2024-2025 school year continues, I look forward to hearing about the exciting activities and initiatives taking place in Ward 6 & 9 – and I will be back to you with another update in June.

Take care,

Kathy Archer
