Maria Felix Miller – Fall 2024 Update
Greetings, Ward 3 Community,
I hope the first few months of the 2024-25 school year treated your family well, and your child(ren) had a successful return to HWDSB classrooms and learning spaces. This fall, I am excited to begin school visits to meet staff and students at Memorial City, Prince of Wales, and Cathy Wever elementary schools.
On Monday September 9, we had the first Board Meeting of the year. I am thrilled to continue to serve the Ward 3 & 4 communities, and alongside my fellow Trustees, I look forward to seeing the vision, mission and values of the Board progress for another year in support of HWDSB students, staff and families. For those who may be interested, you can find the dates of all Board meetings, as well as a link to our livestream, here.
A big thank you to parents and caregivers who have already begun volunteering for school trips, sporting events, and snack programs across our Ward 3 & 4 schools. It takes a big community to support our students – and you are an important part of it!
In support of our Multi-Year Strategic Plan, teams have been working at schools across HWDSB, including new ceilings and LED lights at Adelaide Hoodless and Viscount Montgomery, HVAC renovations at WH Ballard, and updates to A.M. Cunningham, including new front doors, a universal washroom, and gym updates. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about these or other renovation projects in Wards 3 & 4.
As we shift from Fall to Winter in the coming months, I wanted to make sure you know where to find the most up-to-date HWDSB information. I encourage you to subscribe to your child’s school website, follow the Board on Instagram @hwdsb, and look for HWDSB’s monthly NOW@HWDSB newsletter in your email inbox.
And, if you’re looking for a way to support local students, local artists, and experience an entertaining show, a never-before-seen collaboration between Waterdown-based singing groups Harbourtown Sound and A Capella Showcase will be banding together with local students from Young Voices to produce a Holiday Spectacular show on November 30. Part of the proceeds from the show will benefit HWDSB’s charity of choice—the Hamilton Foundation for Student Success—to offer grants to HWDSB students in need from all across the board. As the year continues, I look forward to hearing about the exciting activities and initiatives taking place in Wards 3 & 4 – and I will be back to you with another update in the New Year.
Sincerely,
Maria Felix Miller
