Update to COVID-19 Daily Screening Tool

HWDSB Continues to Strongly Recommend Masks

HWDSB continues to strongly recommend the use of masks in schools and administrative buildings to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

In addition, Ontario has updated the COVID-19 school and child care screening tool that students or families complete before going to school or childcare each day.

Guidance for travelers

In the latest version, updated May 9, 2022, revisions have been made to align with updated federal guidance for fully vaccinated travelers who are exempt from quarantine.

Upon return from international travel, fully vaccinated travelers are no longer required to wear a mask when in public settings for 14 days after arrival in Canada or to maintain a list of all close contacts for their first 14 days in Canada.

Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals who are exempt from quarantine (including unvaccinated children under 12 years of age who are exempt from quarantine due to accompanying a fully vaccinated adult) are still required to wear a mask in public settings (including school and childcare) and maintain a list of all close contacts for 14 days after arrival in Canada. Exemptions for this masking requirement include individuals who need to remove their mask for security or safety reasons; children under the age of 2; and children aged 2 to 5 who are unable to tolerate wearing a mask.

When to stay home

The updated screener will tell you when you need to stay home, based on your answers to its questions.

You must also stay home if you have new or worsening COVID-19 symptoms (unrelated to a known condition) or are waiting for test results after experiencing symptoms. If you feel sick, including having symptoms not listed in this screening tool, it’s important that you stay home or talk with a doctor if necessary.

Please ensure that you are using the updated screener for daily screening. If you have questions about COVID-19 protocols at HWDSB schools, please contact your principal.

Thank you for helping to keep schools safe and open.
