Heat Alert
Posted on Sunday June 22, 2025 @ 05:30 PM
Dear HWDSB Families and Caregivers,
Hamilton Public Health Services has initiated a Heat Warning as of Sunday, June 22, 2025. Heat Warnings stay in effect until they are cancelled or escalated to an Extended Heat Warning. Click here to read more on the City of Hamilton website.
All HWDSB schools, learning spaces and administrative buildings remain open. HWDSB staff are closely monitoring the situation focused on safety.
HWDSB remains open and we strongly advise precautions that include:
· limiting physical outdoor activities and wearing light breathable clothing
· ensuring access to cold drinking water
· monitoring for heat stress
· lowering blinds and window coverings
The following fact sheets are meant to be a helpful resource focused on the prevention, identification, and response to symptoms of heat stress.
Please note that families will be notified with as much time as possible if a school/classroom is closed due to heat.
Classroom closure:
In the event of a classroom closing, students may still attend school; however, their learning may take place in a different area of the building.
School closure:
If an entire school is closed, please do not send your child(ren) to that location and look for additional information and instructions from HWDSB.
For more information about heat you can refer to the City of Hamilton’s website or HWDSB’s information found here.
Amidst the heat, we would like to offer our sincere gratitude to students, staff and families for your outstanding efforts to close a successful 2024-2025 school year.
Thank you,
HWDSB
