Update for Families Transitioning Between In-Person and Remote Learning

The upcoming elementary student transition between in-person and remote learning will take place on Monday, October 4, 2021. Friday, October 1 will be the final day for students in their original learning placements.

Students transitioning to in-person learning must review the following information and complete a Return to School Attestation prior to Monday, October 4.

  • Review current public health protocols with your child/ren. Protocols can be found on HWDSB’s COVID-19 page at https://www.hwdsb.on.ca/about/covid19/.
  • Complete and submit the Return to School Attestation. This form is available in the Parent Portal or can be downloaded, completed and submitted directly to your child/ren’s school. Please note that families with multiple children must complete a separate form for each child returning to school.
  • Call or email your school to find out if there are any health protocols in place that you should know before arriving on your first day of school.

A reminder to families that all students should complete the Ontario school self-screening tool each morning to ensure they are fit to go to classes. The self-screening tool can be accessed online at https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/.

Students transitioning to remote learning will be placed in a dual-track model where each student is registered at a physical school that is hosting the remote learning classroom.

  • Your host school will be your primary contact for all issues related to your child’s schooling.
  • Class schedules will follow the bell time of the host school.
  • Students access remote learning through MS Teams. Remote classes should be available in MS Teams on the morning of Monday, October 4.
  • Teachers will be communicating with families the morning of October 4 to assist with logging in on the first day.
  • Please contact your host school if you have difficulty accessing class on Monday, October 4

Families who have requested devices will receive a direct communication about device pick-ups. Please contact your host school if you have not received this information.
