Re: COVID-19 Vaccination Listing

Dear Minister Elliott, Minister Lecce and Dr. Moore,

This is a letter is to inform you of a motion that Trustees approved during a September 13, 2021 Board meeting at Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB). The motion relates to the mandatory staff vaccination as well as our request about compulsory student vaccination.

In light of the challenges we all face during the fourth wave of this pandemic, and our responsibility to protect those who are in our care, we respectfully register our support for adding COVID-19 vaccines to the list of compulsory student vaccinations.

This request has also come from the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association (OPSBA), which last month cited Dr. Moore’s statement that the government is reviewing the Immunization of School Pupils Act to determine whether COVID-19 should be added to the compulsory vaccination list in the near future.

Like OPSBA, People for Education and a number of other public boards, we strongly encourage the government to move forward on this important change to further improve the safety in our learning spaces in schools.

Sincerely,

Dawn Danko
Chair, Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board
