HWDSB Student Trustees and Student Senate Prepare to Launch Student Voice Survey

Under the leadership of Student Trustees, Deema Abdel Hafeez and Aisha Mahmoud, and Student Senate, a student voice survey has been created to give all grade 7 to 12 students a platform “to share their voice on the issues that matter to us.”

The Student Voice Survey has four sections: About You, Student Well-Being, Equity and Inclusive Spaces, and Communication. The purpose of this survey is to gather feedback on the mental health resources that HWDSB students would like to see, how we can create equitable learning environments, and determine the best ways to communicate with and reach students.

This survey is completely voluntary, and all responses will be anonymous. Students can skip any questions they don’t feel comfortable answering.

This survey will serve as the foundation for HWDSB’s Mental Health Strategy for the next three years and determine the priorities of the Student Senate. The survey will open on May 16, 2022 and close on May 27, 2022. The survey link will be distributed through the HWDSB website, social media channels, and more. Although this is a survey created by students, the responses will be stored and analyzed by HWDSB’s Research and Analytics Department.

For families looking for more information, Student Trustees Deema Abdel Hafeez and Aisha Mahmoud have developed answers to common questions and provided an email address for any additional inquiries.

What is the purpose of the survey?
This survey will serve as the foundation for HWDSB’s Mental Health Strategy for the next three years and determine the priorities of the Student Senate. The survey will open on May 16, 2022 and close on May 27, 2022.

We created this survey because we’ve been exactly where your youth are. We all deserve to have our voices heard and make the change that we want to see.

How is your child’s privacy protected?
Although this is a survey created by students, the responses will be stored and analyzed by HWDSB’s Research and Analytics Department. Your youth will not be identified by name in this survey. Their answers will not be available to you or any school or school board staff. This is to ensure that each youth’s answers are private and confidential. No information is added to your youth’s school record from the survey.

If the Student Voice Survey information is used in research publications or in public documents, your youth and their school will not be identified in any way.

This survey is completely voluntary, and all responses will be anonymous. Youth can skip any questions they don’t feel comfortable answering. We will be posting information about how to access the survey in several places for students. Please have a conversation with your child if you do not want them to take part.

Where can I get more information?
If you have any questions about the survey content or purpose, don’t hesitate to contact us at StudentTrustees@hwdsb.on.ca.
