Reminders about Daily Screening and Mask Wearing

COVID-19 school and child care screening

The provincial COVID-19 School and Child Care Screening Tool was updated April 14 to match guidance from the Ministry of Health. Please review carefully each day and follow the guidance provided by the tool before returning to school.

Your child’s principal can help navigate the screening tool.

Daily screening is an example of a continued layer of protection to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Other examples include hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette, and enhanced cleaning.

Masking in HWDSB Schools

We also remind families that masks are strongly recommended at all HWDSB schools and buildings. Masks continue to be provided to students and school staff on request. The Federal and Provincial continues to ask you to mask in some situations like:

  • Following International Travel – 14 days after arriving in Canada
  • A member of your household has COVID-19 – mask for 10 days after the date you were last exposed to the COVID-19 case in all public settings (like school or child care).
  • You previously tested positive for COVID-19 but self-isolated and have now passed the school screener – mask for 10 days after symptoms began or the positive date, whichever was first in all public settings (like school or child care).
  • Avoid activities non-essential activities where mask removal is needed.
