HWDSB Launches New Multi-Year Strategic Plan and Board Improvement Plan
Hamilton, ON – January 18, 2023: On Wednesday, January 17, 2024, Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) launched a Multi-Year Strategic Plan (MYSP) and Board Improvement Plan.
HWDSB’s five-year MYSP and Board Improvement Plan will guide the work of the school board from 2023 to 2028 and was created through extensive community consultation.
“It was so important that we built this exciting new five-year strategy out of extensive and valuable community feedback, student voice and input from HWDSB families and staff,” remarks HWDSB’s Chair of the Board and Ward 3 Trustee, Maria Felix Miller. “Together with our communities, HWDSB’s focus is firmly fixed on every student feeling a deep and meaningful sense of belonging while also improving learning outcomes for all.”
Reflecting community input, HWDSB created a new Mission to guide the five-year MYSP:
To ensure that every student experiences a sense of belonging and engages in dynamic learning to reach their potential and build their own future.
Our Multi-Year Strategic Plan’s Mission is underpinned by HWDSB’s new guiding Values:
Compassion, Dignity, Trust and Joy.
In addition to the new Mission, the MYSP includes five Strategic Directions designed to enhance student belonging and achievement. The Strategic Directions are:
- Upholding Human Rights, Safety & Well-Being
- Providing Equitable Quality Education
- Collaborating with Students, Families & Communities
- Building a Sustainable Education System
- Reinforcing Indigenous Educational Wellness & Reconciliation
HWDSB’s directions helped to inform a revitalized Board Improvement Plan that is designed to improve:
- Literacy achievement for every student
- Numeracy achievement for every student
- Preparedness for the future for every student
- Engagement for every student
- Well-being for every student
“As part of HWDSB’s Board Improvement Plan, we will implement enhanced and targeted efforts specifically designed to improve learning outcomes and achievement for all HWDSB’s students,” remarks Sheryl Robinson Petrazzini, HWDSB’s Director of Education. “In addition to improved learning outcomes, HWDSB’s Board Improvement Plan is also focused on supporting all students’ overall well-being by fostering inclusive learning spaces where all are welcome and feel a deep sense of belonging”.
