Holiday Greetings and COVID-19 Reminders from the Director of Education

Dear HWDSB community,

As another challenging year ends, we are beginning a special time as families pause to celebrate in many faiths, cultures, and traditions. We remain a strong community, even as concerns may keep us apart.

We all need a winter break but must not neglect public health measures that will keep us safe and keep our schools open for in-person learning. Yesterday, we shared information related to recent public health measures for schools as well as COVID-19 Reminders for Families over the winter break.

Hamilton Public Health Services has prepared a reminder about Winter Celebrations During COVID-19, that you can find reposted on the HWDSB website. If you plan any international travel, please monitor the Federal Government’s travel web page updated due to the Omicron variant of concern.

In addition, students should bring all important personal items home, as shared through our Remote Readiness update to families. This is a precaution. We have not received direction on any changes to in-person learning in January.

In a year with so many challenges and changes, it is always a pleasure to see the energy and creativity in our students’ work.

This year, I am honoured to share some outstanding holiday artwork by Charlise H., a Grade 6 French Immersion student learning remotely at Guy B. Brown Elementary School and Charlotte Skye E. a Grade 9 student at Nora Frances Henderson Secondary School. To view the artwork, click here.

Have a wonderful holiday season and a happy New Year.

Sincerely,

Manny Figueiredo
Director of Education
