As a precaution, we will be keeping students indoors and will continue to monitor air quality over the course of the week.

As a reminder, stay indoors if you are feeling unwell. Stop outdoor activities and contact your health care provider if you or someone in your care experiences shortness of breath, wheezing (including asthma attacks), severe cough, dizziness or chest pains.

People with lung disease (such as asthma) or heart disease, older adults, children, pregnant people, and people who work outdoors are at higher risk of experiencing health effects caused by wildfire smoke. Stop or reduce your activity level if breathing becomes uncomfortable or you or someone in your care feels unwell.

To maximize the efficiency of HWDSB’s ventilation systems, the following points have been shared with staff members:

  • Reschedule all outdoor activities until further notice
  • For classrooms, learning space or offices equipped with a standalone HEPA unit(s), please utilize them, as they assist in removing particulates from the air
  • Close all exterior windows
  • Return indoors if breathing becomes uncomfortable.

We will continue to monitor and provide updates over the course of the week.
