Details on Recent Bus Delays – Update 2
As you may know, the buses serving HWDSB schools continue to experience more delays than usual. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience during the challenging start-up period.
A bus driver shortage at several transportation providers is affecting school boards across the region. Adding new drivers can be a long process because bus drivers require weeks of training and Vulnerable Sector screening. These steps are important for student safety.
Unfortunately, bus delays may continue into October.
Bus drivers are helping by doing extra routes and we are thankful for their efforts. Please keep in mind that drivers are assigned routes and are already helping to ease the delays. We also thank school staff for providing before- and after-school supervision at affected schools.
This is not a situation we hoped to be in. But we are in close contact with our transportation providers as they work on solutions. The situation changes daily, so updates can be found in a variety of ways.
