Christine Bingham Steps Down as HWDSB Trustee, Wards 1 & 2

The following statements are provided by the Chair of the Board, Dawn Danko, and Christine Bingham, former Trustee of Wards 1 & 2. Chair Danko accepted the resignation of Christine Bingham on behalf of the HWDSB Board of Trustees effective Monday, November 29, 2021 during this evening’s Board Meeting.

Dawn Danko, Chair of the Board

“Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board accepted, with sincere regret, the resignation of Trustee Christine Bingham effective immediately. Christine has served students and families in Wards 1 & 2.

Christine was first elected as Trustee in October 2014, bringing her passion and dedication for quality learning supports for all students to the table. She is the mother of two sons who have now graduated from HWDSB. Christine has been a strong advocate for special education, Indigenous students, international students, and school renewal, leading to system changes that have improved education across our system.

We extend our appreciation to Christine and wish her the best in all her future endeavours. Her devotion and service to the students of HWDSB will be missed. Trustees will review options for Trustee Bingham’s replacement for the balance of the electoral term, and communicate further details once the plan is finalized.”

Christine Bingham, former Trustee, Wards 1 & 2

“It has been a privilege to serve as the Wards 1& 2 Trustee for HWDSB for the past 7 years. Since first elected in October 2014, I have committed myself to serving the students and families in my wards and across the system. This experience has been extremely rewarding and it is with regret that I step down from the role of Trustee from the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board effective immediately. I do not take this decision lightly, but due to personal and family circumstances, I have submitted my resignation.

As a parent of two children who have now graduated from HWDSB, I have advocated for supports that raise the voices of all students. My passion has been in the areas of supporting our most vulnerable students, including those living in low-income neighbourhoods and those requiring special education services. I have also dedicated my efforts through various transition committees and planning work to ensure that students learn in quality school facilities.

Serving on the Board of Trustees has been a fulfilling experience for me. Thank you to those who have worked alongside me during my time as Trustee for the past 7 years. I am truly grateful. At this time, I am requesting privacy and thank you in advance for respecting these wishes.”
