Bernie Custis Secondary School Launches New Website

Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board is pleased to launch the Bernie Custis Secondary School website, at www.hwdsb.on.ca/berniecustis. Visitors to the site can learn more about the school, see the school’s boundary, learn about registration and course options for students not currently attending an HWDSB school, and a photo gallery of the construction work taking place.

“As September is approaching and the construction work is being finalized, we look forward to being able to show future students, parents, neighbours, partners and the community our new school,” said Sue Dunlop, Superintendent of Student Achievement. “Through our Transition Committee, we are planning on hosting an open house with tours later this spring, so that all can come into the school to see its features.”

Students and parents living within the Bernie Custis catchment area are encouraged to visit the new website to learn more about course options and how to register, if not currently a student at Sir John A Macdonald or Delta Secondary Schools. Those who are unsure if their home address is within the catchment area, can visit HWDSB’s School Locator at www.hwdsb.on.ca/find where they can enter their home address and the program will tell them which school they can attend.

“As this is a brand-new school within a walkable community, we look forward to seeing many new students who have not been a part of the HWDSB family before,” said Angela Ferguson, current Principal of Delta Secondary and future Principal of Bernie Custis. “Our new school is one that will respect the name of Bernie Custis by following in his example of inclusion, student safety, and high expectations.”

This beautifully designed secondary school, being constructed at 1055 King St. E., will meet the needs of students while complementing the adjacent Tim Hortons Field, Jimmy Thompson pool and the new City of Hamilton Bernie Morelli Recreation Centre. The new school opens in September 2019 and

will accommodate 1,250 pupils in an approximately 160,000 square foot school. A unique partnership with the City of Hamilton will also provide state-of-the-art physical education opportunities for students.
