Ancaster High Hosts 18th Annual Dared-to-Tri Race

Ancaster High School is hosting the 18th annual Dared-to-Tri duathlon at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 26.

Organized and run by Ancaster High recreation and fitness leadership students, the event will see over 500 students, staff and community members from across Hamilton try a fun duathlon. It is the culminating task for students in PLF4M1 Recreation & Fitness Leadership.

Dared-to-Tri began in 2000 with just 40 participants (the class plus 10 eager teachers). It has grown to the point that it requires two leadership classes and 110 volunteers while maintaining its community links.

Over the years, the event has raised money to support recreation at Bennetto Elementary School. The PLF4M1 students visit Bennetto to present the donated funds for athletics, team uniforms, transportation costs to athletic events and breakfast programs for Bennetto students. They also celebrate the courage of Bennetto students for daring to try.

The event also supports the Terry Fox Foundation, The Cut Cancer/ Bravery Beads Program at McMaster University and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Participants have included everyone from Grade 6 students to senior citizens. The event’s distances are: Run 2 km, Bike 7 km and Run 4 km.
