HWDSB Trustees Name Two New Elementary Schools

HWDSB Trustees ratified names for two new elementary schools at their Board meeting on November 23. The selected names are for new schools on the Memorial Stoney Creek and Greensville sites.

“We are excited to continue to build and open new schools each year, that will provide our students and communities with brand new learning environments,” said Alex Johnstone, Chair of the Board. “This school renewal and revitalization is a result of the Pupil Accommodation Reviews (PARs) that took place over the last few years to ensure proper learning spaces for students.”

Trustees approved the following names for the new schools:

Name Location
South Meadow Elementary School Memorial (Stoney Creek) Site
Greensville Elementary School Greensville Site

“We are so pleased with the work of all the naming advisory committees, as they have suggested one great new name in South Meadow Elementary School, and considered the wishes of the community in keeping the name of Greensville Elementary school,” continued Chair Johnstone.

The naming advisory committees reviewed 736 submitted names and selected up to three options to present to Trustees based on the Board’s policy.

Both South Meadow and Greensville Elementary Schools are scheduled to open to students on Monday, January 4, 2021.

About the Name: The Greensville name is being retained for this new school.
