HWDSB Appoints New Trustee for Ward 3

Maria Felix Miller, Ward 3 Trustee

Hamilton, Ontario – June 25, 2019: Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) Trustees appointed Maria Felix Miller to represent Ward 3 and to fill the vacancy due to the sudden passing of Trustee Chris Parkinson.

“The Board of Trustees welcomes Maria Felix Miller to the team and we look forward to working with her,” said Board Chair Alex Johnstone. “We are confident that this appointment respects the recently expressed wishes of the electorate and are happy that Ward 3 has a representative in place.”

Miller came in a close second place finish to Parkinson by only 29 votes in October’s municipal election. Trustees made a motion to appoint her to fill the vacancy in Ward 3 at the June 17, 2019 Board meeting.

“I was saddened to hear about the passing of Trustee Chris Parkinson and honoured that the Board of Trustees has asked me to continue his work in representing Ward 3,” said Maria Felix Miller. “I am excited to work hard for the residents of our ward and to use my experience as a parent and local leader to ensure our students feel seen and supported. I hope to develop an inclusive and community-driven culture at the new Bernie Custis Secondary School through engagement and cooperation, while also recognizing the wonderful local hubs found at our elementary school level.”

Maria Felix Miller will be sworn in at the Board meeting on September 16, 2019.
