Waterdown edges Saltfleet in overtime for Division-I Girls Hockey title

Rachel Haunton notched the game winner as Waterdown District High School earned a 3-2 overtime victory over Saltfleet District High School in the Division-I Girls Hockey Championship on Feb. 22 at Chedoke Twin Pad Arena.

Haunton netted her lone goal of the game in three-on-three elimination portion of overtime after the two teams played a regulation five-on-five and then player elimination. The goal came at 1:01 of the three-on-three elimination period.

Waterdown captain, Jamie Bulleid had two points in the win including the Warriors second goal. Katie East had the other goal for the Warriors.

Paige Arnosti and Amanda Searle scored for Saltfleet in the loss. Searle’s goal tied the game midway through the third period which set up overtime.

The victory is Waterdown’s sixth girls hockey title and their first since 2009-10. The Warriors advanced to represent Hamilton at the Southern Ontario Secondary School Association (SOSSA) championship.
