The HWDSB Day of Difference is an annual event held at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School to celebrate the Board’s LGBTQ 2-spirited community, as well as allies.

For this year’s event in March, organizers approached singer Alessia Cara to ask if she would like to send a video message. Cara is a rising Canadian music star who is nominated and will perform at the Juno Awards on Sunday, April 3.

Cara is best known for her debut single Here from her debut 2015 album Know-It-All. The song reached the top 5 in the United States and the top 20 in Canada.

At the 2016 Junos, she is nominated in the JUNO Fan Choice Award, Single of the Year, Breakthrough Artist of the Year and R&B/Soul Recording of the Year.

Here is the message she sent to all members of the Positive Space Groups across HWDSB. She tells students to “never apologize for being who you are.”
