HWDSB Athletics – OFSAA Update: Day 2 (March 8, 2016)

OFSAAA recap of HWDSB/HWIAC teams competing for winter provincial championships at OFSAA. Championships are being held across the province from March 7-9, 2016.

Boys Basketball (AAA): Sir Allan MacNab SS (March 7-9 @ Windsor, Ont.)

Sir Allan MacNab positioned itself for a run at the Consolation Championship on day two of the OFSAA championship after splitting its games on Tuesday. In their morning contest, the Lions fell 66-59 to Toronto’s St. Michael’s College who ranked as the fourth seed at the event. McNab was able to regroup and dumped host Catholic Central (Windsor) 62-51 with Sam Jenkins notching 19 points in the victory. With the afternoon win, the Lions advance to the consolation semifinal set for Wednesday at 9:30am.  They will play against the winner H.B. Beal (London) or Holy Cross (Kingston) who are play Tuesday night.

Girls Volleyball (AAA): Westdale SS (March 7-9 @ North Bay, Ont.)

Westdale’s OFSAA dream ended on Tuesday afternoon with the Warriors eliminated from play losing their Consolation quarterfinal 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-19) to Ottawa’s Glebe CI. Earlier in the day, the Warriors were able to defeat Lockerby (Sudbury) 2-1 (22-25, 25-20, 15-4) and then lost a heartbreaking game to Holy Names (Windsor) which was a battle for second place in Pool C.  Westdale claimed the first set 25-21, but were edged out in the two final sets with scores of 27-29 and 14-16 in favour of Holy Names.

Girls Volleyball (AA): Sir Winston Churchill SS (March 7-9 @ Kenora, Ont.)

Sir Winston Churchill wrapped up their trip to the OFSAA championship losing another two tough fought matches on Tuesday. In the morning, the Bulldogs lost 2-0 (19-25, 18-25) to L’Amoreaux Collegiate (Toronto) and then were downed 2-0 (11-25, 19-25) to École Secondaire Catholique de Casselman (Casselman) to finish pool play winless.

Girls Volleyball (A): Hamilton DCH (March 7-9 @ Kitchener, Ont.)

Hamilton District Christian advanced to the consolation bracket in Kitchener on Tuesday after completing pool play in third place with a 7-4 set record.  They would knock off Almaguin Highlands (South River, Ont.) 2-1 (25-12, 24-26, 15-6) to conclude pool play this morning. In the Consolation Quarterfinal game the Knights swept Rainy River High School (Rainy River, Ont.) 3-0 with set scores of 25-18, 25-13, 25-16.  On Wednesday, Hamilton District will battle Perth Collegiate (Perth, Ont.)  at 9:00am with their eyes set on the Consolation Final slated for 1:00pm.
