Westmount unveils new Andrea Robertson Learning Commons
Westmount Secondary School officially unveiled its newly renovated Learning Commons on Friday, Feb. 9, naming the improves space in honour of past principal Andrea Robertson.
While leading Westmount, Robertson introduced its signature self-paced and self-directed program in the 1990s. It is still an option for students across HWDSB today.
Robertson herself was on hand to cut the ribbon and formally welcome students into their revitalized learning hub. As students gathered, current Westmount Principal Angela Ferguson invited Robertson to reflect on her time at the school.
Robertson touched on the importance of preparing students for the future and said, “if you find that there is something you can do to make it better for students, you do it.”
Thanks to Robertson’s efforts, Westmount students learn to collaborate with teachers, develop autonomy and accept constructive feedback through self-reflection.
Robertson said that Westmount students simply “do” – they do not wait to be told what to do. This spirit continues to inspire students today.
