Vaping Prevention Information Session for Families – October 25

vaping info night photoVaping is the act of inhaling and exhaling an aerosol produced by a vapour product, such as an electronic cigarette (vape). Most vapes use electrical power from a battery to heat a liquid solution.

Vapes are available in many shapes and sizes. Some are small and look like USB drives or pens, while others are much larger.

Vaping can expose people to harmful chemicals including nicotine, flavourings, and heavy metals. Vaping nicotine can be harmful to physical and mental health and can lead to addiction. Youth are at increased risk of the harmful effects of nicotine, and the long-term health impacts of vaping are unknown.

Vaping: The Unfiltered Facts

Families interested in learning more about vaping prevention were invited to join Hamilton Public Health Services (HPHS) experts at Vaping: The Unfiltered Facts.

At this virtual information session for parents, guardians and caregivers, attendees learned about local data, health risks and strategies for talking to your child about vaping. Guest youth panelists also shared experiences and insight.

The virtual information session took place on Wednesday, October 25 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. via Microsoft Teams. Families can watch a recording below.

For those who watch the presentation, HPHS has included a feedback form. The information collected will be used by staff from HPHS to plan future health promotion resources and events. Click here to access the form.

For more information about the event, please see attached flyer. For tips on talking to your child about vaping, visit the Not An Experiment parent webpage. You can also visit the City of Hamilton or Government of Canada websites to learn more about vaping prevention.
