Sir William Osler’s glee club wins national music award

Sir William Osler’s outstanding musical talent has won their glee club the junior high vocal category in CBC’s 2017 Canadian Music Class Challenge.

The contest challenged music classes from all over the country to learn 17 Canadian songs in various styles. Sir William Osler’s club, consisting of 51 Grade 7 and 8 students, displayed their talents with their rendition of Shawn Mendes’ Treat You Better.

Out of a close 500 submissions, Osler came out on top for the junior high vocal category.

Judge for Canadian Music Class Challenge spoke volumes to the club’s performance,

“This was the video that actually made me cry instantly as the chorus kicked in and everyone started singing all together. You did a fantastic job creating emotion in your blended vocals! The harmonies were delicious and your performance was fun to watch.”

Teacher and lead of the glee club, Pam Kortmann, stated that she is inspired to include more Canadian music in the curriculum and her teachings.

The glee club plans to continue their energetic performances by carolling and spreading holiday cheer throughout Hamilton this season.
