Safe Schools Review Panel Student Survey Now Available

Hamilton, Ontario – October 26, 2020: The Safe Schools: Bullying Prevention and Intervention Review Panel is opening a Student Peer Relations in the Context of COVID-19: Safe Schools Survey for students from Monday, October 26 to Friday, October 30, 2020.

The survey addresses that as a result of COVID-19 there is a change in how learning looks, which may have changed school climates. The survey will divide students into two groups, with one half asked to consider their school before COVID and the other half of students will be asked about the school climate now.

Students will have the opportunity to share information through the survey, including but not limited to:

  • Why they think bullying occurs;
  • Their perceptions of other stakeholders in the school community in relation to bullying;
  • How they have been impacted by bullying.

The survey is made up of 87 quick questions and should take an estimated 30 minutes to complete. Staff and parent s urveys are also forthcoming in the weeks ahead.

The Review Panel has engaged in 17 public sessions and several private sessions with HWDSB stakeholders, such as students and staff to address the issue of bullying in HWDSB schools. The sessions and surveys allow the Review Panel to obtain authentic and constructive recommendations from unique groups around bullying prevention, intervention, reporting, and responding. These necessary and impactful discussions and survey results will contribute to the Review Panel’s final report, which will be presented to HWDSB in December.

A consent information letter was sent to parents and can also be found here.
