National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism – June 23, 2022

National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism graphicEach June 23, HWDSB lowers flags to half-mast to mark National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism. This is a day of reflection on the trauma these heinous acts create.

On June 23, 1985, the bombing of Air India Flight 182 caused the deaths of 329 people, many of Canadians. This was the largest mass killing in Canadian history.

As a community, we need to continue to work toward building safe and inclusive spaces for people to resolve conflict in a peaceful and proactive way.

We must all commit to learning and understanding our diverse experiences and identities, as well as ensure that we all do our part to uphold human rights and kindness.

Thank you for helping create a more peaceful world, and for ensuring that those affected by terrorism are safe, supported and accepted at HWDSB.

Sincerely,

Paul Denomme
Superintendent of Equity and Student Engagement
