National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism – June 23

candle for victims of terrorism dayOn June 23, HWDSB lowers flags to half-mast to mark the National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism. The day is an opportunity to reflect on the trauma caused by heinous acts in Canada and abroad.

This day marks the anniversary of the bombing of Air India Flight 182 which happened on June 23, 1985, and caused the deaths of 329 people, many of whom were Canadian. This is the largest mass killing in Canadian history.

As a community, we need to continue to work toward building safe, accessible, and inclusive spaces for people to resolve conflicts in peaceful and proactive ways.

We remain committed to learning and understanding the diverse experiences and identities of students and staff, as well as ensuring that we do our part to uphold human rights and kindness.

Thank you for helping to create a more understanding and peaceful world, and ensuring that those affected by terrorism are safe, supported, and accepted at HWDSB.

Sincerely,

Sheryl Robinson Petrazzini
Director of Education
