Message from Hamilton Public Health Services

City of Hamilton logoPlease see the following statement from Dr. Elizabeth Richardson, Medical Officer of Health, and the attached letter from HPHS shared with all HWDSB families:

Hamilton Public Health Services continues to follow Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health advice and Provincial guidance as it relates to masking, which includes strongly recommending individuals wear masks in all indoor settings. Masking in indoor settings is especially critical for individuals at higher risk of severe outcomes of an respiratory illness infection.

This is an important reminder for all community members, including parents and their children, to use multiple layers of public health measures to protect themselves, their loved ones and help reduce the pressure on Hamilton’s healthcare system. This includes wearing a well-fitted mask indoors especially when it’s crowded, getting a flu shot and staying up-to-date with COVID-19 vaccinations, screen for respiratory symptoms daily and stay home when feeling sick, regular handwashing, and cleaning surfaces regularly. Going forward and as we have since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Hamilton Public Health Services will work collaboratively with its school board partners to support the recommended health and safety measures to reduce the spread of respiratory illnesses, and help protect our children and youth, education staff, our schools and the broader community.
