For ‘the love of sports’: Kudos to seven retiring Hamilton phys-ed teachers
Educational experience wouldn’t be the same without the hundreds who volunteer as coaches and extracurricular leaders, writes Steve Milton
By Steve Milton (The Hamilton Spectator) – June 30, 2023
Take a bow. A long one.
The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board recently honoured the careers of seven high school phys-ed teachers who are retiring at the end of the year. Which happens to be this week.
Let us add our kudos and thanks to Paul Guagliano and Nancy Holmes of Westmount, Jeannine MacIsaac of Waterdown, Jackie Brown of Sherwood, Cindy Myers of Westdale, Mike McKague of Nora Frances Henderson and Bob Gardiner of Dundas Valley.
They are among hundreds and hundreds of teachers who have given and continue to give — make no mistake, that is the appropriate verb — an inordinate amount of their time not only in the gyms, labs and classrooms between school bells, but before and after them.

Hill Park high school alumni giving back to the community
Profit from reunion will purchase benches for central Mountain parks and playgrounds
By Mark Newman (The Hamilton Spectator) – August 4, 2023
While Hill Park Secondary School has been closed since 2014, the school’s alumni keep on giving.
The alumni have raised $5,000 and hope to see it used for the installation of three park benches, one each at Bruce Park, next to the pickleball courts at the Hill Park Recreation Centre and in the new playground area behind G.L. Armstrong School.
“We want to let people know we are still active and still here and still associated with Hill Park,” said school graduate Georgina Cosentino, who noted the money is surplus from their June 3 pub night/reunion that drew about 500 people to the Mountain Legion. “The primary purpose was just to get together with old friends and we’re able to make some profit.”
