HWDSB Education Centre Staff Get in the Spirit of the Season

By Rob Faulkner

The HWDSB Education Centre gave a warm welcome to the second annual Ugly Christmas Sweater Pancake Breakfast on the morning of Dec. 4. The laughs were for a great cause – the HWDSB Foundation’s drive to gather warm coats and boots for students in our schools.

The ticketed event, sponsored by Johnson Insurance Inc. and supported by Aramark, invited staff to wear their ugliest Christmas sweater for a chance to win the coveted Ugly Christmas Sweater trophy.

It also included a raffle for beautiful wreaths donated by Christine Nicolaides as a promotion for Delta’s December 1 wreath-making fundraiser; a gift package valued at $300 from Goodlife Fitness Centres; and sets of three CDs courtesy of the Hamilton Children’s Choir.

In conjunction with the Leadership and Learning Office, the event also had Raising the Roof toques and hats for sale in support of Wesley Urban Ministries’ street-involved youth programs.

In all, more than 100 tickets were sold at $5 a piece, the raffle raised more than $500 and Johnson Insurance generously sponsored the event.

And the ugliest sweater? That prize went to Matthew Kwan, who works in health and safety so should have known better.

Enjoy some photos from the breakfast.
