HWDSB Congratulates Concours Oratoire Winners
The annual HWDSB Concours Oratoire (French Public Speaking contest) was held throughout March at the HWDSB Education Centre. A number of FSL students from secondary and elementary schools representing all areas of our board attended. Students presented the speeches on which they had worked very hard to write, prepare and practice for an audience of fellow students, parents, teachers and judges. They were excellent and insightful on a large range of topics.
The students competed in various categories based on their grade and the amount of time they have studied French. Participants were from the following schools, Westmount, Westdale, Sherwood, Waterdown, Orchard Park, Dundana, Glen Brae, Norwood, Lawfield, Cootes Paradise, Dalewood, Earl Kitchener, Sir William Osler, ecole Michaelle Jean, Fessenden, Westview, Guy Brown, Cootes Paradise and Winona.
The first student in each category will be competing at “Le Concours d’art Oratoire” for Ontario on May 14 at the Glendon campus of York University in Toronto. This contest is sponsored by CPF: Canadian Parents for French (Ontario) and the Ontario Modern Language Teachers’ Association. Winners there will move on to the National contest.
We appreciate the efforts of all the students who participated and the teachers who promoted the contest and supported the students throughout the process.
