
HWDSB Chair and Director Respond to Provincewide Shutdown
Ontario has announced a new Provincewide Shutdown that is set to begin on Saturday, December 26, 2020, at 12:01 a.m. Here is how these new measures will impact HWDSB:
Dawn Danko, Chair of the Board, and Manny Figueiredo, Director of Education, have issued the following statement in response to the Provincewide Shutdown:
“Today, the Ontario Government announced a new Provincewide Shutdown that is set to begin on Saturday, December 26, 2020, at 12:01 a.m.
As a result, HWDSB learning models have been impacted:
- Elementary and secondary schools will move to teacher-led remote learning when students return from the winter break on January 4, 2021.
- Elementary and secondary students will participate in remote learning from January 4 – 8, 2021 in accordance with PPM 164 Requirements for Remote Learning, which provides specific expectations around synchronous learning.
- Elementary school students will return to in-person learning on January 11, 2021.
- Secondary school students will continue learning remotely until January 25, 2021 and resume in-person learning on that date.
As stated prior to the break, we will engage our remote learning plan during the provincial shutdown. More information will be shared with families this week regarding technology pick-up dates for elementary students (families) who have indicated they require a device.
