HWDSB Chair and Vice-Chair Announced
Trustee Dawn Danko Acclaimed as HWDSB Board Chair 
Trustee Cam Galindo Elected as Vice-Chair
Hamilton, Ontario – December 7, 2020: At the Initial Board Meeting in December, Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) Trustees acclaimed Ward 7 Trustee Dawn Danko as Chair of the Board and elected Wards 9 & 10 Trustee Cam Galindo as Vice-Chair of the Board.
“I am grateful for the support of my fellow Trustees and look forward to helping this board to see the initiatives we have started through to completion,” said Chair Danko. “Our first priority will be to receive the recommendations from the Bullying Prevention and Intervention Review Panel and ensuring its implementation. In addition, the Board of Trustees will continue to focus on the affect the pandemic has had on student learning and our finances.”
The independent Safe Schools: Bullying Prevention and Intervention Review Panel will host two more virtual sessions to hear from the community on December 8 and December 10. The sessions will be held so that the community can provide feedback on draft recommendations before these are finalized in a report to the Board of Trustees in January.
During the Initial Board meeting, Trustees elected their colleagues into the following positions:
- Chair of the Policy Committee – Trustee Maria Felix Miller (Ward 3)
- Chair of the Program Committee – Trustee Becky Buck (Ward 8 & 14)
- Chair of the Governance Committee – Trustee Paul Tut (Ward 13)
- Chair of the Finance and Facilities Committee – Trustee Alex Johnstone (Wards 11 & 12)
- Chair of the Human Resources Committee – Trustee Penny Deathe (Ward 15)
