HWDSB Trustees Approve Budget for 2024-25 School Year
Hamilton, Ontario – June 11, 2024: Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) Trustees have unanimously approved a balanced budget of $706.6 million for the 2024-25 school year.
The budget is a result of months of consultation with the Finance & Facilities Committee, Trustees, and Executive Council. It reflects HWDSB’s focus on providing the resources and support necessary to support our Board Priorities, including:
- Upholding Human Rights, Safety & Well-Being
- Providing Equitable Quality Education
- Collaborating with Students, Families and Communities
- Building a Sustainable Education System
- Reinforcing Indigenous Educational Wellness and Reconciliation
“I’m very proud that this budget reflects our priorities, which are rooted in equitable quality public education for all HWDSB students. I’m particularly pleased about the addition of 64 educational assistants and 10 child and youth care practitioners, as these roles are crucial in ensuring student success and belonging,” said Maria Felix Miller, Chair of the HWDSB Board of Trustees. “This budget is a step forward in realizing the Mission laid out in HWDSB’s new Multi-Year Strategic Plan: To ensure every student experiences a sense of belonging and engages in dynamic learning to reach their potential and build their own future.”
“This budget is a reflection of the values outlined in our Multi-Year Strategic Plan: Dignity, Trust, Compassion, and Joy,” said Sheryl Robinson Petrazzini, HWDSB Director of Education. “It ensures that staff and students are supported and that our schools are well-resourced – ensuring that learners can not only learn, but thrive.”
With a fiscal year that starts on September 1, all Ontario school boards must develop and maintain a balanced budget that complies with the Ministry of Education requirements.
