HWDSB Announces Interim Director of Education
Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) is pleased to announce, and welcome, John Bryant to the role of Interim Director of Education, effective February 2022. This news comes as a result of Manny Figueiredo’s resignation as of February 28.
John recently retired as the director of education for the Waterloo Region District School Board. His impressive career spans several decades, school boards, and senior leadership roles.
“As Trustees move through the recruitment and hiring process to find our new Director of Education, we look forward to John’s collaborative guidance as Interim Director, supporting HWDSB through this transition,” said Dawn Danko, Chair of the Board.
As a recently retired director in Ontario, John has experience with the complexity of COVID-19 safety management. He has also demonstrated a clear commitment to Indigenous education, equity, and human rights.
John has a record of accomplishment leading successful teams. His innovative approach has resulted in district effectiveness and improvement. John is well-positioned to support us as we move through the COVID-19 pandemic and ensure that we maintain our commitment to safety, student well-being, achievement, and equity.
“John’s skills and experience working in urban and rural geographic regions, as well as collaborating with diverse communities and perspectives, makes him highly valued and qualified to step into the role of Interim Director of Education,” said Danko.
About John Bryant
John Bryant began his teaching career in the Borough of York before his time at the Upper Grand District School Board. He moved to Grand Erie District School Board where he became a superintendent supporting school operations and human resources. He remained a supervisory officer as he moved to the Waterloo Region District School Board providing leadership in diverse portfolios. In 2010, John was appointed as director of education for the Bluewater District School Board and returned to the Waterloo Region District School Board as director in 2013.
