2015-16 Junior Boys Division-I Football Champions: Westdale Warriors
Westdale defeats Sir Allan MacNab 33-13 for the 2015-16 Junior Boys Division-I Football Championship at Mohawk Sports Park on Friday, June 10th, 2016.

The Westdale Warriors and the Dundas Valley Gryphons captured the final Hamilton public secondary school championships of the season locking up the Division-I and Division-II junior football title games on June 10 at Mohawk Sports Park.

In the Division-I championship, the Warriors rolled to a 33-13 over the Sir Allan MacNab Lions.  Amlicar Polk was the standout in the game scoring all five of Westdale’s touchdowns including four on the ground. Three of those touchdowns came on long breakout runs of 50 yards or more. Dima Ignjatovic added three points on conversions.

For MacNab, quarterback Quincy Vaughn punched in two touchdown in the loss.

The Lions were the top ranked seed heading into the game and were aiming for a perfect season having tallied a 4-0 record entering the game. Westdale had previously lost 23-7 to MacNab back on May 20 in the team’s initial meeting of the year.

The win marked the third time in four seasons that the Warriors have claimed both the junior and senior football championships in the same school year. In the fall, Westdale earned the senior final 22-15 over MacNab and similarly spoiled MacNab’s attempt at a perfect season.

With the secondary season coming to a close, the junior boys football championship was Westdale’s 15th of the school year out of a possible 26 team titles up for grabs in 2015-16.

In the Division-II championship, Dundas Valley defeated Glendale 38-24 with the Gryphons repeating as junior champions.  Combined as Dundas Valley and the now closed Highland the school has now won five straight.

Harrison Patrick had four rushing touchdowns for the Gryphons while Brad Wright tacked on the other touchdown in the win.  For Glendale Vince Pathoummady, Ed Rolfe, James Varga and Bowen O’Neal all scored majors for the Bears.
