Dundas Valley Secondary School Celebrates Renovations and School Vision Through Open House
Members of the public are invited to Dundas Valley Secondary School’s open house and ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Staff, students and the community will be celebrating the renovations and improvements that have taken place at the school to date. There is also the official ribbon cutting to celebrate the joining of Highland and Parkside Secondary School students as one community in Dundas Valley Secondary School.
“I really have to commend staff and students for their positive attitude and excitement during this phase of the renovation journey,” said Wards 13 & 14 Trustee, Greg Van Geffen. “Although we aren’t done the journey yet, we are preparing for the next round of renovations. We want to see our students graduate and become successful, thriving young adults who carry the values and lessons that were taught to them here at Dundas Valley Secondary School. The renovated areas of the school will help to provide them that opportunity.”
Guest speaker Cheryl Payne-Stevens, will speak about the importance of having a school vision focused on Human Rights. Cheryl is a Program Associate with Facing History and Ourselves. Their mission is to engage students of diverse backgrounds in an examination of racism, prejudice and anti-Semitism in order to promote the development of a more humane and informed citizenry.
“We went through an inspiring process of collecting feedback from the school community that affirmed a human rights focus as the centre piece of our school’s vision,” said Em Del Sordo, school principal. “This open house is an opportunity for the entire community to visit Dundas Valley Secondary School and learn more about how our school has embraced an empathetic culture of respect and learning through the lens of Human Rights.”
