Details related to HWDSB event for secondary students, June 15
HWDSB hosted an event on June 15 that brought secondary students from across the board together in celebration of inclusion and acceptance.
At the end of the evening, some students reported concerns of feeling unwell. First responders were called, and as a precaution, the dance ended 30-minutes early to ensure student safety and well-being.
Paramedics examined six students and determined that no symptoms were consistent with a stimulant or depressant. Police also attended and found that no further action was required.
There are reports circulating from participants connected to the event that are untrue and speculative. We hope this can provide clarity to alleviate concerns. In addition, support has been developed by social work and equity staff members for educators who led positive space groups to support student needs.
