Cootes Paradise Opens new School Grounds

In May, the Cootes Paradise Elementary School Outdoor Space Committee was thrilled after three years of work to announce the opening of an improved school ground that use natural materials, increase the number of trees and plants and that aims to increase outdoor learning and physical activity among students and the surrounding community.

The project, led by the school’s parents and surrounding community, emerged from the amalgamation of George R. Allan and Prince Philip elementary schools as well as related work on ensuring a positive transition for students.

The new school grounds were made possible through the volunteer work of the parent-led Outdoor Space Committee, school staff and other parent volunteers, as well as generous financial and in-kind contributions of the City of Hamilton’s Ward One Participatory Budgeting Process, the George R. Allan and Cootes Paradise Home and School Associations, Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board, Ainslie Woods Westdale Community Association, TD Friends of the Environment Foundation, Toyota Evergreen Learning Grounds Program, various individuals, families and local businesses.
