Take Our Kids to Work Day 2022
For more than 25 years Grade 9 students across Canada have participated in Take Our Kids to Work Day exploring potential careers. Take Our Kids to Work Day has been facilitated through The Learning Partnership, but as of this past summer The Learning Partnership has made the decision to wind down its operations. The Students Commission of Canada is now sponsoring Take Your Kids to Work Day on November 2nd.
This year, HWDSB will continue with our practice of the last two years and focus on school-based events and learning. Grade 9 students are welcome to go to their family member’s workplace, while schools are encouraged to intentionally take the time to engage Grade 9 students in learning related to careers and pathways.
With the de-streamed Grade Nine Program, Grade 9 students will begin to make pathways decisions historically made in Grade 8. November 2nd is an opportunity to engage all students in considering their post-secondary aspirations and the programming in the school and within the HWDSB that lead to that post-graduation destination.
The goals of the K-12 education and career/life planning are to:
• ensure that all students develop the knowledge and skills they need to make informed education and career/life choices;
• provide classroom and school-wide opportunities for this learning; and
• engage parents and the broader community in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the program, to support students in their learning. (Ministry of Education, 2019)
