Here’s How Remembrance Day Was Recognized Across HWDSB
Remembrance Day marks the end of the First World War in 1918, and traditionally involves a pause in our day for silent reflection at the 11th hour of the 11th day in the 11th month. For each of us, the day is a time of reflection.
Yesterday, on November 11, 2021, flags were lowered at our school buildings and Education Centre. Many students and staff also marked the occasion by taking part in a virtual ceremony that concluded with a moment of silence at 11 a.m.
Schools and classrooms also found a wide variety of ways to acknowledge Remembrance Day. We saw images of touching student art, meaningful class projects, virtual classroom visits, and acts of kindness in the community shared on social media. Here is a collection of Remembrance Day posts from our HWDSB community.

I brought in some of my grandfather’s letters, drawings, and maps from WWII to show 8D today. Ss enjoyed reading his letters, as it helped them connect to the experiences Canada’s veterans went through. @WinonaElem @HWDSB pic.twitter.com/UfvVwoODWE
