HWDSB Parent Involvement Committee Calls for Education Workers to be Vaccinated

HWDSB’s Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) has written a letter to Minister of Health Christine Elliott and Minister of Education Stephen Lecce, calling for education workers to be a top priority for vaccinations. This request comes one day after HWDSB asked that Hamilton Public Health Services immediately provide COVID-19 vaccine access to frontline education workers.

Read the letter below, which was penned by PIC Chair Amanda Fehrman:

Dear Ministers Elliott and Lecce,

I am writing you on behalf of the Parent Involvement Committee with the Hamilton‐Wentworth District  School Board. As parents, we implore you to urgently vaccinate the education workers who, day in and  day out, sacrifice their health to keep our kids in school.

As we know, not all students are successful at online learning. Keeping schools open and safe for in-person learning is imperative to the education of students who are the leaders of the future.

Vaccinating educators as a high priority will ensure the safety, both physically and mentally, of students and staff. This is a significant public health measure that will further support the conditions that allow schools to stay open.

Please do the right thing and make educators a top priority for vaccinations.

Sincerely,

Amanda Fehrman, Chair
Parent Involvement Committee
Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board
