Ancaster High Welcomes Best Buy Canada Grant

DSC_0021Ancaster High School is thrilled to have been chosen by Best Buy Canada as one of the 14 secondary schools selected from more than 300 applicants to receive funding for tech-based curricula through the Best Buy School Tech Grant program.

The Feb. 18 presentation welcomed local Best Buy representatives to celebrate the $6,424 grant that will help build the school’s innovative, technology-infused MakerSpace in its Learning Commons.

Teacher-librarian Tracey Behiel said the equipment will change the role of technology from one encouraging isolated tasks into a role that encourages collaborative and creative learning.

The goal is to have students explore, create and invent – by using the grant to purchase a Makerbot mini 3-D printer, Sphero robotic balls, cameras and green screen equipment. AHS hopes these will foster play and problem solving in the Learning Commons, and the rest of the school.
