Greetings, Ward 3 and Ward 4 Community,

I hope your family had a restful Winter Break, and the return to classrooms and learning spaces has been successful for your child(ren).

I am pleased to share that at the Monday, November 18 Board Meeting Trustees re-elected me as Chair of the Board and Paul Tut as Vice Chair for another term. Also, alongside my fellow Trustees we selected our colleagues for the following positions:

  • Chair of Policy Committee – Sabreina Dahab, Ward 12
  • Chair of Program Committee – Amanda Fehrman, Wards 11 & 12
  • Chair of Finance and Facilities Committee – Paul Tut, Ward 13
  • Chair of the Human Resources Committee – Dawn Danko, Ward 7

Additionally, at the December 2 Governance meeting Becky Buck, HWDSB Trustee for Wards 8 & 14, was elected as Chair of Governance Committee.

I look forward to continuing to serve the Ward 3 community alongside my colleagues, and you can read more about the election, click here. For those who may be interested, you can find the dates of all Board meetings, as well as a link to our livestream, here.

I’d also like to express my gratitude to the Ward 4 community. Thank you for welcoming me as I served as your interim Trustee. It was a pleasure to serve your community and families. Thank you for participating in HWDSB’s by-election and we are pleased to welcome Abby Zaitley  as HWDSB’s newest Trustee representing Ward 4.

In support of our Multi-Year Strategic Plan, teams have been working at schools across HWDSB to provide important facilities updates. These updates include gym, accessible washroom and elevator renovations at A.M. Cunningham, as well as renovations to the gym, main entrance, elevator and accessible washroom at Parkdale. Projects at Rosedale commenced with the gym addition and will include the renovation of the existing gym into a learning commons, with front entrance and ramp, as well as manufacturing and shop renovations happening at Sir Winston Churchill. W.H. Ballard will also see washroom renovations take place at their school. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about these or other renovation projects in Wards 3 & 4.

As we are in the middle of winter, I wanted to make sure you know where to find important information about Severe Weather. You can learn all about how HWDSB manages snowy and icy conditions here.

I encourage you to subscribe to your child’s school website, follow the Board on Instagram @hwdsb, and look for HWDSB’s monthly NOW@HWDSB newsletter in your email inbox.

As the year continues, I look forward to hearing about the exciting activities and initiatives taking place in Wards 3 & 4 – and I will be back to you with another update before the 2024-2025 school year comes to an end.

Sincerely,

Maria Felix Miller
